Advocating Nature Through Fashion

feature photo

The world of fashion and the ecology seems like two unrelated entities. Hearing the word fashion would bring to mind all the glitz and glamour. On the other hand, green pastures, fresh air, and sweet scent of flowers are pictured out just by thinking of nature. It appears that they are on opposite poles and things are inconsequential.

If this the case, why are there a lot of rage over the fashion industry? How come people are meticulously picking the right material to lessen the effects of global warming? What does one’s clothing have to do with the environment exactly?

Well, here is the deal between these two. Whatever is generated by the fashion world comes from the environment. May it be synthetic or all natural fiber, the raw materials before they undergo processing must first exist in nature. In fact, every single fiber is nature’s doing. Couturiers merely handle them to come up with stylish clothing line. So, no matter how good a fashion designer could be, he/she is nothing without what nature has to offer. We owe our mother nature a lot and the least that we can do is be responsible in utilizing the available resources.

In the past, from couture establishments to garment factories were some sort of ruthless just to come up with amazing pieces regardless of what toll it takes on the environment. They were unsympathetic until such time that their cruelty has blown them in the faces. But of course, they are not the only one to blame. We, as the buying public who avail of the goods they offer threw in more logs to the already blazing fire. Most of us were willing participants in the environment’s destruction.

Simple Choices, Big Difference

A person’s choice of clothing speaks volumes about his or her attitude towards the things that surrounds him/her. The type of fabric that one goes for has a lot of impact on the environment. Apart from that knowing what company produces the clothing line is also important since their factories might be damaging the environment through the various processes they employ.

Being fashionable is not superficial. As long as you have gained the awareness that your manner of dressing up would affect the future of this earth. Use your fashion sense prudently because through it you can have an advocacy.

  1. We like this posting. At GreenEdge Kids, we are trying to provide both information about the problems (with conventional clothing) and the alternatives (hip and trendy still but 100% eco-friendly). GreenEdge Kids has a huge selection of hip and trendy eco-fashion for kids, sizes 2-12. You can find modern styles by fashion forward designers in hemp, organic cotton, recycled fabric, soy, organic wool, and more…most are made in USA or fair trade. We hope you will check it out and be part of the change.
